Who is Mahram

Mahram is a male relative whom a woman is permanently forbidden o marry due to breastfeeding, blood ties or ties through marriage. It includes father, husband, son, brother, grandson, nephew, grandfather, uncle, son-in-law, father-in-law, stepson, stepfather, and any male with whom she shared her mother’s milk are considered mahram according to the teaching of Islam.

Rulings for women to perform Hajj and Umrah

According to Saudi law following are the rulings for women to perform Hajj and Umrah:

Women under the age of 45 cannot go for Hajj or Umrah unless she is in the company of Mahram.

The minimum age of mahram to accompany a woman is 17.

Details of the relationship between the woman and her Mahram must be provided with the application.

A woman older than 45 can only travel if she is going on Hajj and Umrah with family or an organized group and she delivers a No Objection Certificate from her mahram relatives.

The woman is required to enter Saudi Arabia with the Mahram even if he lives in some other country. In this case, you must book indirect flights to get together at a certain place before entering Saudi Arabia.

If the visa of a woman is issued with a mahram, then she is not allowed to leave Saudi Arabia without a mahram.
