The Prophet’s ﷺ Love for Hasan Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali
The prophet’s grandsons, Hasan Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) were very much loved by him. Imam At-Tirmidhi has recorded some narration about the prophet’s love for his two grandsons in his collection of hadith At Tirmidhi in the chapters on the qualities of the companions of the prophetﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ loved them
Al-Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that the Prophet ﷺ saw Hasan Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali, so he said:
Most adored of the Prophet’s ﷺ household
Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked:
“Which of the people of your house are most beloved to you?” He said: “Hasan Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali.” And he used to say to Fatimah: “Call my two sons for me.” And he would smell them and hug them.
Loving Hasan Ibn Ali & Hussein Ibn Ali Means to love the Prophet ﷺ
‘Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:
They’ll be the leaders of the youth in Paradise
Abu Sa’eed (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Hasan Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali are the leaders of the youth of heaven.”
The two perfumed flowers of the Prophet ﷺ

“Indeed Hasan Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali – they are my two fragrant flowers in the world.”
The Prophet ﷺ descends from the minbar for them
Abu Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a Khutbah to us when Hasan Ibn Ali Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali came, wearing red shirts, walking and falling down. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descend from the Minbar and carry them, and sited them in front of him. Then he said: ‘Allah spoke the Truth: Indeed, your wealth and your children are a trial. I looked at these two children walking and falling downward, and I could not bear tolerantly any longer until I interrupted my talk and picked them up.”
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Hussein Ibn Ali is from me, and I am from Hussein Ibn Ali”
Ya’la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Hussein Ibn Ali is from me, and I am from Hussein Ibn Ali. May Allah love those who love Hussein Ibn Ali.”
As believers, we should love Hasan Ibn Ali and Hussein Ibn Ali and the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Their lives were dedicated to preserving and living the sunnah of the messenger of Allah. We should be saddened when we read about the martyrdom of Hussein Ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) but we should not let our emotions spur us into doing those actions which are contrary to the very teachings Hussein Ibn Ali gave his life for.
